Pallbearers, above, carry the casket of Earl ``Running Deer'' Bass,
chief of the Nansemond tribe, to his grave in a family cemetery at
his Chesapeake home Tuesday. Bass, 87, died peacefully in his sleep
Saturday.
James DeLong, left, holds his son James Jr., outside Indiana United
Methodist Church in Chesapeake, where the funeral was held. DeLong's
wife, Phyllis, a member of the tribe, said James Jr. is the youngest
member of the tribe. The DeLongs traveled from their home in
Chester, Va., to join other members of the tribe Tuesday at the
