THE QUESTIONS THAT WEREN'T ASKED

Two nights ago, I forwent the opportunity to watch the Atlanta-St. Louis game that I might view the presidential debate. I regret that they used the format that they did. The questions were much too polite - I kept waiting for one of the questioners to say, ``Mr. President, whatever happened to the days when we could hold up the president of the United States as a role model for our children? Please explain your remark when you said that one of your regrets was that you hadn't inhaled. What about turning your back on your country and demonstrating in England during the Vietnam War? And how do you see yourself as commander in chief with the power (often used) to send American fighting men and women to face possible death in foreign lands when you yourself refused to go?''

As a veteran, as a father and as a grandfather, I cannot in good conscience vote for a man like this. What surprises me is that other well-meaning people can overlook these deficiencies.

Senator Dole has my vote.
