Velton Brooks, formerly of the 7000 block of Auburn Ave., died Oct. 20, 1996, in Norfolk Health Care Center.
Mr. Brooks was born in Mathews County, Va., on May 11, 1926. He was the son of Alberta Smith who preceded him in death. He was married to the late Shirley Jacobs Brooks for 33 years. He was a member of First Calvary Baptist Church. He retired in 1983 from the U.S. Custom House after 30 years of faithful service.
Survivors include four sisters, Mrs. Texanna Ford, Miss Eunice Smith, Brenda Smith of New York, Mrs. Barbara Jackson of Gloucester, Va.; three brothers, Mr. James G. Smith of Newport News, Kneail Smith of Glen Allen, Merlan Smith of New York; nieces, nephews, and many friends; and a special friend, Mr. M. Alston.
A wake will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. today in Hale Funeral Home. A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in First Calvary Baptist Church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Hale Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
