Viola C. Brown, 85, died Oct. 18, 1996, in a Norfolk hospital.
Born in Durham, N.C., she was the widow of Bryant E. Brown. Mrs. Brown was a charter member of Great Bridge Baptist Church and a member of the Jim Beam Bottling Club. She also did a lot of volunteer work for American Cancer Society and United Cerebral Palsy.
Survivors include a daughter, Angela Boswell of Oklahoma City; a sister, Georgia Godwin of Durham, N.C.; a brother, Joseph Childress of Norfolk; two grandchildren, Lin Boswell of Atlanta and Patrick Boswell of Norfolk.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. today in Forest Lawn Cemetery by the Rev. Charles Moseley. Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Bayside Chapel, is handling arrangements.
