William A. Parker, 79, of Route 3 died Oct. 22, 1996, in Bayside Medical Center, Virginia Beach.
Mr. Parker was a native of Northampton, N.C., a member of New Hope United Methodist Church and was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was retired from Ordnance and Supply at the Naval Supply Center. Mr. Parker was the son of the late William Julius and Ellie Belle Sumner Parker and the husband of Mildred Dunning Parker of Virginia Beach.
Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Ellie H. and husband, Charles Corley of Greenville, Texas, and Shirley P. and husband, Munford K. Bach of Virginia Beach; a son, William Thomas and wife, Kitty Trader Parker of Gulfport, Miss.; two sisters, Anna Shields of Jarratt, Va., and Julie Cottrell Evers of Norfolk; a sister-in-law, Tonita Cooke; 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife of 56 years, Inez Dunning Parker; a daughter, Barbara Jeanette Ruth; and a brother, James C. Parker.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in Twiford's Memorial Chapel, Elizabeth City, by the Rev. Tony Collier. Burial will follow in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends today from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the funeral home and Saturday after the funeral service in the home of the daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Munford K. Bach, 433 Tory Road, Virginia Beach.
