HEAVY SURF AND DIRTY WATER TAKE TOLL ON FISHING

Pier fishing along the northern beaches continued its slow pace Thursday.

The surf was heavy and the water remained dirty.

On Hatteras Island, Rodanthe Pier reported a handful of sand perch, small black drum and croakers landed.

Anglers on Avon Pier caught three sizable drum Wednesday night but action was slow most of Thursday.

Fishing was good on Frisco Pier, where seas were calm compared to conditions along the northern beaches. Fishermen landed sea mullet, spot and scattered large flounder.

Surf fishing was slow along the northern beaches and around Oregon Inlet due to rough seas.

Fishing was also slow in the surf from Rodanthe to Buxton.

At Cape Point, a few large drum, puppy drum, sea mullet and a lot of croaker were beached Wednesday night and Thursday. Several big flounder were taken.

A few sea mullet, black drum, several bluefish and some undersized flounder were landed by surf fishermen from Frisco to Hatteras Inlet.

Little boating activity was reported from Oregon Inlet and Hatteras Inlet due to sea conditions.

Fishing should improve along the Dare Coast by the weekend as seas fall and the water clarity improves.
