B.J. Armstrong scored five points in the final 1:24 to lead the Golden State Warriors to a 112-108 overtime exhibition win over the New Jersey Nets Thursday night at Hampton Coliseum.
Armstrong hit a 3-pointer with 1:24 remaining that put the Warriors up to stay 105-103. The Warriors hit seven free throws down the stretch to ice it.
The Warriors led 87-69 early in the fourth quarter. But New Jersey was led back by Ed O'Bannon, who had nine fourth-quarter points, and Khalid Reeves and Jayson Williams, who had seven each. O'Bannon hit a 3-pointer from the left side with 7.8 seconds left to tie the game at 98. Latrell Sprewell missed a 15-foot jumper as time expired, sending the game to overtime.
Golden State took control for good with 39 seconds left, when Kendall Gill fouled Sprewell and was assessed a technical foul. Armstrong hit the technical free throw and Sprewell hit two more to make it 108-103.
Joe Smith led all scorers with 20 points, 17 in the first half. Bimbo Coles added 19 and Donyell Marshall 17 for the Warriors. Williams led New Jersey with 18 points and 17 rebounds.
