Ira James London, 56, died Oct. 25, 1996, in a Norfolk hospital.
Mr. London was a native of Baltimore, Md., and a resident of Norfolk for over 28 years. He graduated from Baltimore Polytechnic Institute and received his bachelor of science degree in business from Tulane University. Upon graduation he served in the U.S. Army. When Mr. London moved to Virginia he became associated with Photo-Gem Corporation and Brand Distributors. During this time he was the photography buyer for the 100-store AMI Catalog group. After a brief retirement in 1991, he began a second career in life insurance and financial planning. Mr. London was employed by Massachusetts Mutual. He was a member of Ohef Sholom Temple in Norfolk, Sunrise Chapter of the Norfolk Rotary Club, Masonic Lodge, (NU)1 Norfolk, and Life Underwriters and the TBA.
Mr. London was preceded in death by his father, Alvin Davidson London. He is survived by his wife, Joan Kaplan London; two daughters, Alicia Dee London of Arlington, Betsy J. London of Bethesda, Md.; a son, Dr. Scott D. London of Charlottesville; his mother and stepfather, Beverly London Sachs and Philip H. Sachs of Baltimore; his brother and sister-in-law, Dr. Andrew M. London and Anne London of Baltimore; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Bernice and Milton Kaplan of Norfolk; and his nieces and nephews in Baltimore and Norfolk.
A Temple service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday at Ohef Sholom Temple by Rabbi Lawrence A. Forman and Cantor Jennifer Bern-Vogel. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will be at their home in Norfolk. Memorial contributions may be made to the James London Athletic and Outdoor Programming Fund at the Hebrew Academy of Tidewater. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Norfolk, will be handling the arrangements.
