Even Sisisky's Republican challenger admits it would be quite a feat to unseat the 14-year Congressman. But Sisisky's not taking any chances.
He's spent the last few weeks traveling across the fourth district, which stretches from Virginia Beach to the edge of Charlottesville. For anyone, including a 69-year-old who last year beat a tough case of colon cancer, that would be tiring.
But Sisisky, who made his fortune manufacturing soft drinks in his Petersburg hometown, relishes the politics. He gets energy from the interaction with constituents and other local politicians. During his campaign, he is emphasizing his 14-year service on the House of Representative's National Security Committee, and his record of protecting the interests of the fourth district's defense industries. IN HIS OWN WORDS
``I take no chances. You show me a politician that doesn't run scared, and I'll show you a politician that's not going to get reelected sometime.''
