John Frederick Tate, 34, is making is first bid for public office. Married and the father of three children, Tate has worked in Republican circles for most of his adult life.
He is currently the director of the National Right to Work Committee's Telecommunications Center in Virginia Beach. The organization is based in Springfield and through its Virginia Beach satellite offices - there are two of them - it lobbies Congress and the General Assembly on legislation affecting unions.
From the Virginia Beach offices, right to work employees conduct telephone work and handle mail generated from those phone calls.
Tate also has served as chairman of the Virginia Republican Party's Rules Committee during the 1994 convention and is now a member of the Republican City Committee.
