Their exploits were chronicled when they were stars on the South Hampton Roads' high school sports scene. But once these one-time media darlings scatter to college teams across the country, they suddenly become more anonymous than the guy who holds the ball on a field-goal attempt.
But every now and then, when memories of the great deeds of high school stars past kick in, one might be inclined to ask, ``Whatever happened to . . . ?''
Kirsty Hale
Then: Finished her three-year field hockey career at Cox as the second-leading goal-scorer in Virginia High School League history (88) in 1995.
Now: At Princeton, she's the Ivy League's leading scorer (11 goals, 11 assists) after 12 games. Ranks ninth in the nation in scoring (2.74 points per game).
Mike Pishioneri

Now: Has yet to see action this season for Princeton, which runs a one-back offense. Did not play as a freshman, either, as he battled shoulder, hand and other injuries.
Damien Taylor
Then: Ran for more than 1,400 yards for Norfolk Academy as a senior (1995) before electing to join Pishioneri at Princeton.
Now: Blew out a knee during spring practice and is out for the season. Accomplished a statistical oddity last season - no receptions for 1 yard and a touchdown - when he picked up a fumbled completion and scored.
Robin Dwyer
Then: Had eight goals and nine assists for the mighty Cox field hockey team (1995), then was named an alternate on the U-18 national team.
Now: Yet another member of South Hampton Roads' Princeton connection, Dwyer has two goals and one assist as a midfielder for the Tigers.
Cedric Warren

Now: Yet to see action for No. 1 Gators. Likely to be redshirted.
Jill Davis
Then: A first-team All-Tidewater performer as a defensive midfielder for First Colonial (1994). Was one of three area players, along with teammate Amy Rosenbaum and Salem's Angela Young, to sign grants-in-aid with Alabama, which reinstated women's soccer after a three-year hiatus.
Now: Winner of the Crimson Tide's most improved player award last season, Davis has seen action in 12 of her team's first 13 games and has four shots on goal. Young has played in all 13 games and has also taken four shots. Rosenbaum, the 1993 All-Tidewater player of the year, is no longer on the team. A fourth Virginia Beach player, former All-Tidewater first-teamer Kirstie Neidlinger (Salem), has started 10 times and has scored a goal.
Shawn Foreman
Then: Set virtually every Indian River receiving record and caught 62 passes for 1,008 yards and 10 touchdowns as a senior (1993).
Now: Has eight catches for 101 yards (12.6) and a touchdown for West Virginia through seven victories.

Now: Ranked fourth in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference after six games for North Carolina A&T with 498 yards, led league in yards per rush (7.3), tied for the lead in scoring.
Kristin Cholewa
Then: Scored eight goals and nine assists as a first-team All-Tidewater soccer star for Kempsville (1995).
Now: Had a goal and an assist for West Virginia Tuesday in a 4-0 victory over Mount St. Mary's.
