A 34-year-old woman was killed early Sunday after the car she was driving slammed into a guardrail at high speed, police said. A man in the car with her was hospitalized.
The woman was identified as Jeana Lee Christian of the 3700 block of Grey Dove Lane. The man, Bryan D. Harkness, 32, of the 1300 block of Ruddy Oak Court, was being treated at Virginia Beach General Hospital. His condition was not known Sunday night.
Police said the single vehicle accident happened at 2:06 a.m. on Princess Anne Road at the Ferrell Parkway interchange.
Christian was eastbound on Princess Anne, police said, when she apparently lost control of the car. It struck a curb and ran off the right side of the road. It slid sideways and the driver's side struck the end of a guardrail. The car then continued up an embankment, finally coming to rest at the edge of an overpass.
Police said speed and alcohol were factors, and that neither victim was wearing a seat belt.
