GEORGE H. LAWSON

George H. ``Buck'' Lawson, 75, died Sunday, Oct. 27, 1996, in Riverside Hospital.

A native of Portsmouth, Mr. Lawson was a veteran of the U.S. Army and also served in the Merchant Marines. He retired in 1974 from the Naval Air Station, Norfolk. He was a longstanding member of the Portsmouth Moose Lodge. In the early 1940s, he was the last of four brothers to captain and make all-Tidewater on the Wilson High School football team. He went on to captain the Hargrave Military Academy Football team in 1943.

Survivors include his wife, Myrtle H. Lawson; a daughter, Lisa L. Johnson and husband, Robbie, of Suffolk; a son, George H. Lawson Jr. and wife, Kay, of Richmond; a sister, Kathryn Cain of Richmond; two brothers, John F. Lawson of Chesapeake, Thomas C. Lawson of Smithfield; four grandsons, Tripp and Kirt Lawson of Richmond and Ben and Jacob Johnson of Suffolk.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Riverside Funeral Home, Newport News. The body has been cremated. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Ebenezer United Methodist Church, 1589 Steeple Drive, Suffolk, Va. 23433.
