MAMMIE GARDNER

Mammie Gardner, 61, of the 400 block of Sycamore Road, died Oct. 27, 1996, in Maryview Hospital.

Born in Woodland, N.C., she was the widow of James Gardner. Mrs. Gardner was a cook for the Salvation Army of Portsmouth for two years. She was also a member of the Salvation Army Church, Portsmouth, and the Ladies Home League of the Salvation Army.

Survivors include two daughters, Beverly D. Allen and Berlinda M. Waters, both of Portsmouth; four sons, Meredith A. Gardner, Milton W. Gardner, Marvin T. Gardner and Martin D. Gardner, all of Portsmouth; six sisters, Fannie Vaughan of Portsmouth, Mary Williams and Mary Freeman, both of North Carolina, and Ethel Boone, Elizabeth Riddick and Magerthia Futurell, all of Washington, D.C.; two brothers, Jesse J. Joyner and Jesse W. Joyner, both of Washington, D.C.; eight grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

A memorial service will be conducted at 6 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Corprew Funeral Home, Portsmouth, by the Rev. Jeremiah Farrow. The body will be cremated. Family and friends will assemble for the memorial service at 6:45 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
