RALPH W. BUCHANAN

Ralph W. Buchanan, 81, of Bumpass, Va., formerly of Portsmouth, died Oct. 27, 1996.

A native of Carter, Tenn., Mr. Buchanan retired from the Norfolk Navy Shipyard as a molder. He also worked at and retired from Ukrop's grocery in Ashland, Va. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Margrette P. Buchanan; his daughters, Pat Buchanan Bonner of Portsmouth and Janis B. Davis of Suffolk; sisters, Willie Mae Bulman and Ruth Huffine, both of Johnson City, Tenn.; grandchildren, Jason B. Davis Sr. and Melissa A. Davis; two great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Meadowbrook Mausoleum Chapel by the Rev. N.A. Wall. Entombment will be in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens. The family will be at Sturtevant Funeral Home, Bennetts Creek Chapel, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today and at other times at 5532 Cavalier Road, Suffolk. Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
