Pier fishing along the northern beaches was generally slow Tuesday.
Action was nil on Kitty Hawk Pier, but Avalon Pier reported scattered bluefish early in the morning and again in the afternoon. Most of the fish were landed close to beach on bucktails and jiggers.
Anglers on Nags Head Pier landed several mullet and small bluefish. Toadfish, a few blues and small black drum were caught from Jennette's Pier. A few toadfish and one keeper speckled trout were landed on Outer Banks Pier.
On Hatteras Island, fishermen on Rodanthe Pier caught a few toadfish and spot during the morning, and some nice bluefish on cut bait in the afternoon.
The best pier action of the day was reported from Avon Pier where five drum, measuring from 42 to 46 inches, where taken in the morning. Some nice sea mullet, small bluefish and gray trout were landed during the rest of the day.
Fishing was slow on Frisco Pier, with only a few sea mullet and keeper flounder taken.
Small bluefish and bottom fish were landed in the surf along the northern beaches.
Small bluefish and small speckled trout were taken along the north and south shores of Oregon Inlet.
Small bluefish were beached by surfcasters from Rodanthe to Buxton.
A few drum were landed from Cape Point Monday night, but fishing was slow during the day Tuesday.
Surf fishermen along the beach from Frisco to Hatteras Inlet caught a few flounder and sea mullet.
Blue water action off Oregon Inlet was slow, with scattered yellowfin tuna landed.
Offshore fishermen caught king mackerel inside the Diamond Shoals Light Tower area off Hatteras.
The water temperature was 64.5 degrees Tuesday at the Army Corps of Engineers Pier in Duck, and 70 degrees at Frisco Pier on Hatteras Island. by CNB
