A Wilmington newspaper has endorsed Democrat George S. Parrott in the Third District congressional race.
The Wilmington Star gave its backing to the Atlantic Beach businessman in its Tuesday edition. Parrott faces incumbent Republican Walter B. Jones Jr. in Tuesday's election.
``Mr. Parrott is clearly the better choice,'' the paper wrote. ``He (Jones) has voted to gut environmental programs, and once he got a taste of political action money, forgot about pushing campaign finance reform. ... What Walter Jones Jr. seems to stand for is Walter Jones Jr.''
Parrott, 40, is making his first run for political office.
