ISSUES TO REMEMBER WHEN VOTING

When voting on Tuesday, think about the past three years of the Republican Congress and the Republican governors.

Congress shut down the government twice; set back military retirement until April '97; proposed to eliminate the Department of Education; proposed vouchers for private schools; proposed to cut back on environment issues; proposes a 15 percent tax cut with no clear statment on how to pay for it and balance the budget; and proposes a reduction of the capital-gains tax, which 60 percent of the population will never get to use.

Finally, while reducing the welfare rolls is something we all want, think of what these people will do if the jobs don't pay enough to support the family or if they can't find jobs; the crime rate goes up. The governor of this state did not take the GOALS 2000 funds earmarked for education. Now we are faced with trying to find funds to build schools, buy computers, raise teachers' salaries and educate those who need extra schooling to have a chance at the American Dream.

The Republican Party is not into women's issues such as choice, affirmative action or equal pay for equal skills. Negative advertising does not give answers to the questions that will be raised in the next four years.
