John Welch ``Jack'' Woods, 73, died Saturday, Nov. 2, 1996, at Riverside Regional Medical Center.
He was a retired field engineer for Bell Atlantic and a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served in World War II. He was an active member of Warwick Memorial United Methodist Church, where he was a member of the Trinity Bible Class. He was a member of South Norfolk Masonic Lodge (NU)339, AF & AM, and a member of Telephone Pioneers of America, Chapter 43, where he had served as treasurer for 13 years. He was also a member of Mended Hearts Chapter 119 for over eight years.
Mr. Woods is survived by his wife of over 50 years, Edith Parker Woods; a daughter, Carol Woods Danish and her husband Lt. Col. (Ret. USA) Clement Danish Jr. of Newport News; three grandchildren, Amy Elizabeth Danish, Clement John Danish and Elliot Michael Danish; and a brother, Dr. Thomson Butler Woods Jr. of Ponca City, Okla.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. in Warwick Memorial United Methodist Church with Drs. Doug Watson and Stanley Hargraves officiating. Interment will follow in Peninsula Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at Umphlett Funeral Home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, Virginia Peninsula Division, 753 Thimble Shoals Blvd., Newport News, or the American Diabetes Association, 1290 Seminole Trail, Charlottesville.
