JAMES W. STRICKLAND

James W. Strickland, 66, of the 1100 block of Byrd Ave., died Nov. 3, 1996.

Born in South Norfolk, he was a supervisor for the U.S. Postal Service, retiring after 23 years of service. He was currently employed by Food Lion, Parkview. Mr. Strickland was a member of Raleigh Heights Baptist Church, Chesapeake, participating as a member of the Chancel Choir, deacon and past chairman of deacons, teacher of the Friendship Bible Class, and the church bowling league. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Survivors include his loving wife, Shirley R. Strickland; a daughter, Diana G. Sims of Virginia Beach; a stepdaughter, Robin Banks of Chapel Hill, N.C.; a son, Timothy D. Strickland of Tucson, Ariz.; three stepsons, Monte Rasmussen and Randy Rasmussen, both of Chesapeake, Dean Rasmussen of Richmond; four sisters, Barbara E. Zimmerman, Annette P. Fuller, Leona Fay Reardon and Toni E. Rawlins, all of Chesapeake; a brother, Thomas M. Strickland of Chesapeake; grandchildren, Kenneth Sims and Bryan Belangia. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Virginia Hunter Strickland.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Raleigh Heights Baptist Church, Chesapeake, by the Rev. Penny Wilson Jr. and the Rev. Henry Napier. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today in Graham Funeral Home, South Norfolk Chapel, and all other times at the residence.
