A man who shot at a police officer on Saturday remained at large Sunday, although investigators were tracking down numerous leads.
Police say Jeffrey Scott Blaney, 31, who was already wanted on burglary charges, fired a single shot at Master Officer Rene Johnson as she chased him on Norfolk Ave. near Baltic Ave.
Johnson, 33 and a 12-year veteran of the police force, was not hit. The gunman escaped.
``I saw the smoke leave the gun, I heard the bang and I could smell the smoke,'' Johnson said Sunday. Instinctively, she hit the ground and pulled her weapon, she said. ``I'm just happy that I was able to react in the way that I did.''
Blaney is described as white, 5 feet 9 inches tall, 175 to 185 pounds with brown hair and green eyes. He was last seen wearing khaki pants and a teal green jacket and driving a medium-blue, 1987 Ford Tempo with Virginia license plates ZHN-4961. He is considered armed and dangerous and is now charged with attempted malicious assault on a police officer, use of a gun while committing a felony and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Anyone with information on Blaney's whereabouts can call 911 or Crime Solvers at 427-0000.
