After looking several days for a suspect in the slaying of an East Ocean View teenager, police on Monday arrested and charged a Norfolk man.
Timothy Whitaker, 19, surrendered to detectives at 9:10 a.m. at the Police Operations Center in the 3600 block of Virginia Beach Boulevard, police spokesman Larry Hill said. Detectives D.M. Goldberg and R.L. Chupik charged him with murder and using a firearm in a felony.
Herbert L. Blount, 17, was fatally shot Friday about 6:43 p.m. outside an apartment building near 16th Bay Street and Pleasant Avenue. Blount lived in the 9500 block of 15th Bay St.
Police believe the shooting stemmed from a daylong argument between Blount and the suspect. Police identified Whitaker as a suspect in the case, which helped lead to the arrest, Hill said.
Whitaker, of the 3500 block of Mangrove Ave., is scheduled to be arraigned in General District Court today. by CNB
