William Roy McCormick Sr. of the 100 block of Cowboy Trail died Wednesday, Jan. 1, 1997, in Louise Obici Hospital.
Mr. McCormick was born in Harriman, Tenn., the son of the late Roy McCormick and Loretta Barnette McCormick. He retired from the U.S. Navy after 23 years as a master chief boatsmate petty officer and had worked for the Readiest Survival Group for eight years. Mr. McCormick was also in the Fleet Reserve and a veteran of Vietnam.
He is survived by his wife, Sherry S. McCormick; a daughter, Tina Louis Qualls of Ladson, S.C.; two stepdaughters, Debbie Swartz of Danville, Va., and Tracie Zanett of Rupert, Idaho; a son, William R. McCormick Jr. of Elizabeth City; and two stepsons, Raymond McCormick of Covington, Ga., and Garry Ehlert of Kitty Hawk. Mr. McCormick is also survived by two sisters, Patricia McKenny and Sharon Kurtpatrick, both of Tennessee.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. today in Twiford Colonial Chapel, Great Bridge, Chesapeake. Memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 1290 Seminole Trail, Suite 2, Charlottesville, Va., 22901.
