What a day!
Winter moved to the back burner Friday - a warm one - as summerlike weather brought record highs throughout the mid-Atlantic region.
The high of 70 at the National Weather Service at Norfolk International Airport tied the record for the date, set in 1966.
And this weekend should be just about as nice. Today should bring partly sunny skies and a high in the mid- to upper-60s. Sunday may see less sun, with some showers likely, but a high again in the 60s.
Enjoy it while you can, however. After all, it is winter. On Monday, Hampton Roads should turn breezy and colder with partly sunny skies.
These were some of the other record highs set Friday compared with the previous records:
Richmond - 71; 70 in 1910.
Dulles International Airport - 62; 59 in 1964.
Greensboro - 71; 65 in 1943 and 1951.
Raleigh/Durham Airport - 71; 68 in 1951.
Charlotte - 72; 71 in 1910.
Asheville, N.C. - 68; 62 in 1989.
Washington - 66; 64 in 1874.
Baltimore - 67; 61 in 1950. ILLUSTRATION: Color photo TAMARA VONINSKI/The Virginian-Pilot
