Alvin E. Burns, 67, of the 5100 block of Strafford Chase Drive died Jan. 3, 1997, in Norfolk.
Mr. Burns, a Chicago native, retired from the U.S. Navy as a lieutenant commander after 27 years of service. He was a veteran of World War II and Korea. He was a member of F.O.P. No. 8 Lodge, Association of Chiefs of Police, past president of the Lion's Club of Norfolk Surban, past president of Lamda Alpha Epsilon.
Survivors include his wife, Betty M. Burns; two daughters, Sherry Allen of Virginia Beach and Helen Farrell of Chesapeake; step-daughter, Lisa Watson of Alexandria, Va.; two sons, Alvin E. Burns Jr. of Chesapeake and Donald Burns of Norfolk; two step-sons, Arthur Toll of Philadelphia and Kenneth Burns of Alexandria; mother, Helen H. Burns of Franklin Park, Ill.; sister, Carol Cocciemiglio of Illinois; brother, Harry Burns of Florida; 10 grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, Norfolk. Smith and Williams Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel, is in charge. Friends may join the family there from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday.
