GEORGE GOOSBY

George Goosby of the 200 block of Bedford Court died Jan. 3, 1997, in Portsmouth Naval Hospital.

A retired truck driver with 21 years service at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard, Mr. Goosby was a native of Willis, Texas. He was the widower of Rosa Goosby and a member and usher of Fellowship United Church of Christ, Chesapeake. He was a member of Mount Gilead Lodge No. 102, Order of Masons, Fleet Reserve Branch No. 259 and a 22-year retired U.S. Navy veteran.

Survivors include his daughter, Sandra Warren of Portsmouth; five sons, George K. Goosby Jr., Byron A. Goosby, both of Portsmouth, Joseph Goosby of Houston, Army Staff Sgt. Charles Goosby and Army Staff Sgt. Michael Goosby, both of Fort Sill, Okla.; three sisters, Lois Riley, Annie Maeweather and Florence Goosby, all of Houston; nine grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Fellowship United Church of Christ, Chesapeake, by the Rev. Winston E. Waugh. Burial will be in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens, Suffolk, with full military and Masonic honors. Viewing at Corprew Funeral Home, Portsmouth, will begin at noon Tuesday. The family will be there from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday. They will also be at the home of his daughter, 4033 Wyndybrow Drive, Portsmouth, and will assemble there for the funeral procession to the church.
