PAUL D. JENKINS

The Rev. Paul Delano Jenkins, son of the late Robert A. and Josephine McCauley Jenkins, died Jan. 8, 1997. He was known to his parishioners as Father Paul.

Father was born on March 9, 1933, in Richmond. He received his elementary education in Highland Springs Elementary School and graduated from St. Patrick's High School, Richmond, in 1951. Father attended Mount Saint Mary's College, Emmitsburg, Md., from 1951 to 1955, where he earned a bachelor of arts degree in philosophy. Father was a student at Mount Saint Mary's Seminary from 1953 to 1959 and was ordained in the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, Richmond, on May 11, 1959. Following ordination, Father served as assistant pastor of St. Therese Church, Portsmouth, from 1959 to 1964 and as associate pastor of St. Paul's Church, Richmond, from 1964 to 1969, when he was appointed pastor of Church of the Assumption, Keyser, W.Va. On June 11, 1973, Father was transferred to become pastor of St. Paul's, Richmond. Father was named Pater of Church of the Holy Angels, Portsmouth, on May 29, 1978, and served that parish until June of 1991. Father was named pastor of St. James, Hopewell, and has served that parish until the present.

Father Paul is survived by a brother, Thomas Felix Jenkins; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Mary Lee Pickens; a niece, Mrs. Donna Elkins; a nephew, Michael Jenkins; and four great-nieces.

His remains will rest at St. James Catholic Church, Hopewell, after 5 p.m. Friday, where a Vigil service will be held at 7:30 p.m. and Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery. Bliley Funeral Home, Richmond, is handling arrangements.
