3 RESCUED AFTER NAVY HELICOPTER CRASH

Three Florida-based Navy helicopter crewmen were rescued relatively unharmed after the crash Wednesday of their SH-60 Seahawk in the Gulf of Aden, off the coast of Yemen at the western end of the Arabian Sea.

The helicopter, operating from the Norfolk-based destroyer Nicholson, was on a routine mission about 7:45 p.m. (11:45 a.m. EST), the Navy said. The crewmen were pulled from the sea by a rescue team from the Norfolk-based guided missile frigate Halyburton.

One crew member was being kept aboard the Halyburton with minor injuries. The other two were returned to the Nicholson. All are assigned to Helicopter Squadron Anti-Submarine Light 46 in Mayport, Fla. Their identification was withheld until relatives could be notified.
