Woodrow Love Wilson Sr., 81, of the 1200 block of Davis Ave. went to be with the Lord Thursday, Jan. 9, 1997, in a local hospital.
Mr. Wilson was born in Holston Valley, Tenn., and was the son of the late Raymond Francis Wilson and Lillie Whitlock Wilson. He retired from Norfolk Naval Shipyard as an electrical supervisor in 1977. He was an active member and elder emeritus of Eastminster Presbyterian Church, Virginia Beach. He was also clerk of the session for many years. Mr. Wilson was an accomplished wood carver and had won in world class competitions. He was a member of the National Wood Carver's Association, Back Bay Wildlife Guild, Virginia Beach Carver's Club, Portlock Carving Club, Ward Foundation and the International Wildfowl Carving Association.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Ruth Todd Wilson; daughter, Deborah Lynne Robinson of Virginia Beach; son, Woodrow L. Wilson Jr. of Chesapeake; brother, Vaughan W. Wilson of Washington, D.C.; four sisters, Francis Jewel Weiss of Pembroke, Va., Ann Throgmorton of Silva, N.C., Bille M. White of Bristol, Tenn., and Wilma Lustig of Stuart, Fla.; five grandchildren, Brian Wilson, Lydia Wilson and Amy Wilson of Chesapeake and Jessica Robinson and Benjamin Robinson of Virginia Beach; and many loved ones, including aunts, uncles, nieces, cousins and other relatives and friends.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Indian River Chapel, by the Rev. Robert Hobson. Burial will be in Chesapeake Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today in the funeral home.
