John Hollingsworth Gannaway, 89, of the 7400 block of Major Ave., died Sunday, Jan. 12, 1997, in a Norfolk hospital.
He was a retired cartographer with the U.S. Corps of Engineers. He was born in Fort Smith, Ark., and was the widower of Thelma Mae Patton Gannaway. He was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church, The Wesleymen, and a longstanding member of the International Brotherhood of Magicians.
Survivors include two sons, John M. Gannaway of Leesburg, Va., and Jerry L. Gannaway of Chesapeake; five grandchildren, Rebecca G. Madigan and John E. Gannaway of Leesburg, Kimberley G. Grant of Austin, Texas, and Stephen M. Gannaway and Elizabeth R. Gannaway of Chesapeake; and seven great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Forest Lawn Cemetery by the Rev. Roy P. White. The family will be at Cox Funeral Home from 7 to 8 p.m. today for visitation. Memorial contributions may be made to The Wesleymen, 408 Boush St., Norfolk, Va. 23510.
