HERBERT A. LANIER

The Rev. Herbert Allen Lanier, 66, died in Duplin General Hospital, Kenansville, on Jan. 11, 1997.

The Rev. Lanier graduated from Magnolia High School and attended Campbell University, Buies Creek; Wake Forest University, Winston-Salem; the College of William and Mary, Williamsburg; and Southeastern Theological Seminary, Wake Forest. He had been pastor of Magnolia Baptist Church since February 1993. He served in the Navy from 1950 to 1954. He was preceded in death by his parents, Admah and Ada Mae Lanier.

Survivors include his wife, Estelle Kissner Lanier; a son, Dennis Allen Lanier and wife Elizabeth Lanier of Virginia Beach; a daughter, Denise Lanier and husband David Smiley of Chesapeake; four grandchildren, Joe and Bob Kroleski of Oahu, Hawaii, and Meghan and Lauren Smiley of Chesapeake; five brothers, Admah Lanier Jr. of Scott Hill, Joe Lanier of Breckenridge, Colo., Cal Lanier of Melbourne, Fla., Billy Rae Lanier of Hampstead and Robert Lee Lanier of Magnolia; two sisters, Marie Knowles of Burgaw and Mary Ann Knowles of Magnolia; and many nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Magnolia Baptist Church by the Rev. John A. Johnson. Burial will follow in Devotional Gardens. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Community Funeral Home, Warsaw, and other times at the home.
