Weston Daniel ``W.D.'' Hobbs Sr., 79, of Woodland Terrace Drive, died Saturday, Jan. 11, 1997 in a Portsmouth hospital.
A native of Hobbsville, N.C., he was the son of the late George A. and Anna Parks Hobbs. He was retired as a shipfitter from Shop 11, Norfolk Naval Shipyard, and was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of Fairview Heights Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Mildred S. Hobbs; four daughters, Kay Neal and Shirley Neal of Portsmouth, Jackie Gasparini and husband Gene of Portsmouth, and Carolyn Grady of Cincinnati, Ohio; a son, Weston D. Hobbs Jr. and wife Brenda of Glen Allen, Va.; a sister, Elsie Lassiter of Sunbury, N.C.; three brothers, Albert Hobbs and Wendell Hobbs, both of Hobbsville, and Edison Hobbs of Chesapeake; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens by Dr. Ted Barton. The family will be at Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, from 7 to 8 p.m. today. Contributions may be made to Fairview Heights Baptist Church.
