On Jan. 12, 1997, at approximately 2:30 p.m. the Lord called home Vernon J. Lawson Jr., a very faithful servant, loving husband and caring father and grandfather to be with Him.
Vernon James Lawson Jr. had resided on New Market Drive since July 14, 1974. He had served in the U.S. Navy from 1959-1963 and had retired from the U.S. Coast Guard after serving his country for 17 years. He was the owner of Lawson's Southern Seafood.
A native of Crisfield, Md., Mr. Lawson was the son of the late Vernon ``Bo'' J. Lawson Sr. and Sarah Owens Lawson. He was associated with Providence Baptist Church, Chesapeake, of which his wife is a member.
Survivors include his wife, Edna Nelson Lawson; two daughters, Angela Faye Scott and her husband, R.T. Scott of Hopeton, Va., Bonnie Lynn Hudson and her husband, David Paul Hudson of Chesapeake; a son, Vernon James Lawson III of Virginia Beach; a sister, Estelle Louise Lawson Shultz of Crisfield; a brother, Donald Edwin Lawson of Marion, Md. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Brad, Taylor and Hunter Scott.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Providence Baptist Church by the Rev. Ronald N. Heath. Burial with military honors will follow in Rosewood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today in Smith and Williams Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel.
