Walter Futrell Johnson Sr., 74, of the 100 block of Ashe St., died Tuesday Jan. 14, 1997, in Chowan Hospital.
Mr. Johnson retired from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard after 36 years. He was also a veteran of the Army and Navy and a member of the American Legion. Mr. Johnson was the son of the late Cedia Brickel and Henry Lee Johnson, and the husband of Mrs. Mildred Liverman Johnson of Edenton.
Besides his wife, he is survived by five daughters and their husbands, Lynda and Guy Floyd of Franklin, Jerrilyn and Walter Jeffreys of Buxton, Ima Jean and Derek Eller of Louisburg, Letha Ann and Tom Turner of Youngsville, Wanda and Gary Bryant of Kernersville; a son, Walter F. Johnson Jr. of Roanoke Rapids; two brothers, William J. Johnson of Gatesville, Jesse J. Johnson of Edenton; 13 grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and many special friends.
Graveside services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday in Buckhorn Church Cemetery, Como, by the Rev. Greg Brinson. The family will receive friends in Evans Funeral Home from 7 to 9 p.m. today.
