Harold Karl Copeland Sr., 51, of the 500 block of Avondale Road, died Jan. 16, 1997, in Maryview Hospital.
He was a truck driver for Southeastern Public Service Authority with two years of service and a former bus driver for Tidewater Regional Transit with 13 years of service. Born in Norfolk County, he was a former member of New Hope Baptist Church, Chesapeake. He was a U.S. Army veteran.
Survivors include a wife, Sharon E. Copeland; daughter, Tia E. Copeland of Portsmouth; two sons, Harold K. Copeland Jr. and Kevin A. Copeland, both of Portsmouth; mother, Collie M. Copeland of Portsmouth; three sisters, Delores C. Gatling of Queens, N.Y., Reba C. Edmonds and Sheila C. Houston, both of Portsmouth; four brothers, George A. Copeland Jr. and Edward E. Copeland, both of Portsmouth, Joseph C. Copeland and Donald M. Copeland, both of Petersburg, Va.; two aunts, Virginia Roberson and Rosebud Parham; two uncles, William McKinley Parham and Thomas Harris; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, including his brother-in-law, Abraham Gatling, sisters-in-law, Barbara Copeland, Emma Waters, and Yvonne Copeland, and friends. He was predeceased by his father, George A. Copeland.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday by the Rev. Sidney Foster Jr. in New Hope Baptist Church, 1317 Gust Lane, Portsmouth. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park, Chesapeake, with military honors. Viewing will be at Corprew Funeral Home, Portsmouth, at noon today.
