Swanelle Etheridge, 73, of the 900 block of Wadena Road, died Friday, Jan. 17, 1997, in a Portsmouth hospital.
Mrs. Etheridge was born in Ahoskie, N.C., and was the widow of Aubrey Lee Etheridge Sr. She retired from Sears Department Store at Pembroke after 20 years of service. She was a member of Providence Baptist Church and a former member of South Norfolk Baptist Church for many years.
Survivors include her two daughters, Peggy Gower of Chesapeake and Sue Schuetz of Hampton; her son, Aubrey Lee Etheridge Jr., also of Chesapeake; her half-brother, Cola Harrison of Colerain, N.C.; 11 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. today in the chapel of Oman Funeral Home, Great Bridge. The Rev. Ron Heath will officiate. Burial will follow in Riverside Memorial Park, Norfolk. The family will receive friends at 552 Beauregard Drive, Chesapeake.
