Irene Butler Howell, 94, died Jan. 20, 1997, in Southampton Memorial Hospital.
She was a graduate of Farmville State College (Longwood) and taught school in Isle of Wight County and Southampton County. She was lifetime member of Beaver Dam Baptist Church and one of its oldest members. A past Sunday School teacher for many years, she was a member of Garland Moore Circle. She was born in Isle of Wight County, and was the daughter of the late Alfred Rawls Butler Sr. and Minnie Alcinda Rose Butler and the widow of Arthur Howell.
Survivors include two sisters, Nellie B. Williams of Macon, Ga., Minnie B. Holland of Suffolk; brother, Wilson M. Butler and wife, Audrey, of Carrsville, Va.; a sister-in-law, Melba H. Butler of Portsmouth; and several nieces and newphews.
She was predeceased by three sisters, Lucy B. Staples, Eunice B. Vaughan and Janie B. Fox; and three brothers, A.R. Butler Jr., J. Clifton Butler and T. Frank Butler.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Beaver Dam Baptist Church Cemetery by the Rev. Reginald Warren. The family will receive friends at the home of Mrs. Minnie B. Holland of 7413 Harvest Drive, Suffolk. Memorials may be made to the Carrsville Volunteer Fire Department at P.O. Box, Carrsville, Va., 23315 or Windsor Volunteer Rescue Squad, P.O.
