Betty Hill Vaughan, 80, died Tuesday Jan. 21, 1997, in Greenville Memorial Hospital, Emporia.
She was the widow of Charles P. Vaughan and daughter of the late Samuel Lewis and Eva Eula Britt Hill. She was a homemaker, a seamstress, an avid gardener and a member of Newsoms Baptist Church.
She is survived by five sons, David C. Vaughan of Dover, Del., Paul T. Vaughan of Hampton, Billy Vaughan of Tucson, Ariz., Willie Vaughan of Newsoms and Samuel W. Vaughan of Goldsboro, N.C.; a daughter, Ella Sue Vaughan of Richmond; a sister, Lizzie Mae Story of Newsoms; a brother, Eppa Prince Hill of Baltimore, Md.; 12 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was the mother of the late Charles Vaughan and Shelia V. Hazelwood and sister of the late Minnie Blanche Story.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in Newsoms Baptist Church by the Rev. Kenneth Williams and the Rev. Pat B. Tony. Burial will be in Hollywood Cemetery, Newsoms. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today in Purviance Funeral Home, Boykins Chapel. Memorial donations may be made to Newsoms Baptist Church.
