James Earl Johnson, 75, of the 400 block of Elizabeth St., died Jan. 21, 1997, in Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.
Born in Isle of Wight County, Va., he retired as a mechanic for Norfolk Naval Air Station and was a member of First Baptist Church, N. Main St. He was the son of the late James Hurley and Lula Belle Bradshaw Johnson.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, May Belle Vann Johnson; daughters and sons-in-law, Earlene J. Hobbs and O. Kermit Hobbs Jr., Judy J. Brinkley and Robert W. Brinkley Sr., all of Suffolk; sisters, Virginia J. Wilkins of Henrico, N.C., Katherine J. Ellis and Hilda J. Morris, both of Suffolk; brothers, George G. Johnson of Chesapeake, Otis M. Johnson of Grantville, Pa.; grandsons, Robert W. Brinkley Jr. of Suffolk, Neil T. Hobbs of Forest, Va., Senior Airman Michael L. Brinkley of Pope Air Force Base, N.C., Wade T. Hobbs of Harrisonburg, Va.; and great-granddaughter, Victoria L. Brinkley of Suffolk.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in Harrell Funeral Home by the Revs. Charles W. Thompson and John Kimball. Entombment will follow in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens. Friends may join the family in the funeral home from 7 to 8 p.m. today and other times in the residence. Memorial donations may be made to The Together We Share Fund, 237 N.
