MAN INDICTED ON DRUG CHARGES

A Hertford man has been arrested on drug charges and faces life imprisonment and $17 million in fines.

Fred Julian Harvey, 45, of the 300 block of Brace St., was indicted Tuesday by a federal grand jury on charges of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute heroin, cocaine base (crack) and cocaine.

Harvey also was charged with distribution of crack and heroin, and possession with the intent to distribute crack, according to a news release issued Thursday from the Raleigh office of U.S. Attorney Janice Cole.

If convicted on all counts, Harvey could receive a maximum sentence of life imprisonment, fines totaling $17 million and supervised probation for 10 years.

Harvey's arrest came after an investigation by the federal Drug Enforcement Administration.

A trial date has not been set.
