Melvin Willis Bright, 85, of the 900 block of Lord Bowman Road, died Jan. 25, 1997, in his residence.
He was born in Norfolk and was retired as a superintendent 2 from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard after 41 years. He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Helen S. Bright; two daughters, Yvonne Barnes of Richmond and Sharon Mitchell of Virginia Beach; three sons, Melvin Willis Bright Jr. of Currituck, N.C., Richard Bright of Vista, Calif., and James Bright of Tappahanock, Va.; a sister, Susan Pratt of Virginia Beach; 16 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Indian River Chapel, by Dr. John P. Mason. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will be at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.
