Edward J. Smith Sr., 80, of the 2800 block of W. Gibbs Road, died Jan. 26, 1997, in Chesapeake.
Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he retired from the City of Virginia Beach Maintenance Department. He was a Catholic and a member of the American Legion.
Survivors include his wife, Gertrude P. Smith; a daughter, Kathleen Johnson of Long Island, N.Y.; a son, Edward J. Smith Jr. of Knotts Island, N.C.; a sister, Kathleen Connors of Voorheesville, N.Y.; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Great Bridge Chapel, by Father Edward L. Richardson. Burial will be in Chesapeake Memorial Gardens. The family will be at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday.
