George N. Wertz, 68, of the 400 block of Truman Circle, died Jan. 23, 1997, in Portsmouth General Hospital.
Mr. Wertz was born in Wilson, N.C., and was the widower of Marie Evans Wertz. He was retired as a sandblaster from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard after 35 1/2 years.
Survivors include four daughters, Evelyn Wertz, Iona Wertz, Audrey Wertz, Sarah Parker, all of Portsmouth; three sons, Ronald Wertz of Randallstown, Md., George Wertz Jr. of Smithfield and Johnny Wertz of Richmond; a brother, Issac Wertz of Baltimore; 11 grandchildren; a devoted grandchild, Recardo Evans of Waldorf, Md.; and a host of relatives and friends.
A funeral will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in Discipleship Baptist Church, 3600 Race St., Portsmouth, by the Rev. D. Stefan Adams. Burial will be in Lincoln Memorial Park. A wake will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in Chatman Funeral Home, Norfolk.
