Nettie Wolford Catron, 94, died Sunday, Jan. 26, 1997 in Wythe County Community Hospital.
She was born in Crockett, Va., and was preceded in death by her husband, William Clarence Catron; her parents, the late James Cloyd and Mollie Miller Wolford; a sister, Ella May W. Grubb; two brothers, George Wolford and William C. ``Jaybird'' Wolford. She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church since 1916, a teacher for the Wythe County Public Schools from 1922 until 1935, and also a retired civil service worker for the Norfolk Naval Supply Center in 1970 with 30 years service.
She is survived by three sisters-in-law, Beulah L. Wolford of Barco, N.C., Vivian K. Catron, Emma H. Umberger, both of Wytheville; five nieces, Helen C. Wilson of Wytheville, Doris W. Sawyers, Betty W. Loomis of Barco, Paige B. Omohendro of Huntington, W.Va., Lena Faye C. Crockett of Cripple Creek, Va.; eight nephews, Dewey W. Catron of Wytheville, William (Bill) Wolford, Jack Grubb, both of Roanoke, Rodney N. Catron of Virginia Beach, Charles C. Catron of Salem, Va., Darrell B. Catron of Monroe, N.C., Walter Graham BeCraft of Elk Creek, Va., William (Buster) Catron of Wytheville; special grandniece, Teresa C. Peters of Chesapeake; special grandnephew, William Sawyers of Barco; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews also survive.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. today in West End Cemetery, Wytheville. The family asks that in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the Wythe County Rescue or the Rural Retreat Rescue Squads. Gillman Funeral Chapel, Wytheville, is handling arrangements.
