Raymond G. Alley Jr., 71, entered into eternal life on Sunday, Jan. 26, 1997, in Southside Regional Medical Center, Petersburg.
He was a native of Petersburg, the son of the late Raymond G. Sr. and Katherine Bullock Alley; a World War II Army veteran; helped organize the Hopewell Optimist Club; and was a retired civil service employee of the Air Force and a courtesy clerk for Ukrops. He was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy A. Hutcherson.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Geraldine L. Alley; a son and daughter-in-law, Phillip M. and Margaret Alley of Virginia Beach; a daughter, Susan A. Warthan of Hopewell; two grandchildren, Sherry L. and Brad P. Warthan; a sister, Katherine A. Morton of Anaheim, Calif.; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Home, Colonial Heights. Interment will follow in Blandford Cemetery, Petersburg. The family will receive friends at their residence, 3306 Clay St., Hopewell, from 4 to 8 p.m. today.
