Honorary chairmanship of the 1997 Nansemond-Suffolk Academy Art Show and Sale is a family affair.
The honor goes to Susan and Louis Jones whose son, Ryan, will also be one of the exhibitors.
The show, running from Sunday through Feb. 9, will feature 700 creations by 100 regional artists representing all media - watercolor, acrylics, oils, ceramics, glass, and mixed media.
The show benefits cultural programs at the Academy.
``Last year's proceeds were used for the school's fine arts programs,'' said Arlene Zeiler, publicity chairman.
The event begins with an opening reception in the Lower School from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday.
The Jones name lends prestige to the Art Show and Sale.
The couple have sold more than 180,000 prints of their works, placing them in the top echelon of the country's limited edition print producers.
Louis Jones' father, Herb, is one of Hampton Roads best known artists.
Louis' son, Ryan, 19, is studying art at Virginia Wesleyan.
The couple operate galleries in Norfolk and Virginia Beach where the featured works bear family signatures. Prices range from $140 to $780.
Some larger works, commissioned by corporations, sell for as much as $10,000.
The art of Susan and Louis Jones stretches beyond the region and has been shown in galleries across the country as well as in England, Germany, Switzerland and France.
Recently, they participated in a two-person show in London, and they joined a select group of American artists chosen to display at the Contemporary Art Exhibit in Bath, England. ILLUSTRATION: Staff photo by MICHAEL KESTNER
