ANOTHER LOOK AT HUNTING

My letter is in response to the Jan. 17 letter calling hunters barbaric.

I too am a hunter and disagree with the use of dogs to run the deer into an ambush. There are many who still hunt without the use of dogs or high-power technology.

Hunting has been a way of controlling overpopulation. There are strict guidelines that must be followed, fines imposed on those abusing these guidelines. Hunters contribute valuable meat to those less fortunate through ``Hunters for the Hungry.'' Hunting has been a means of providing meat for our tables since our forefathers.

I guess it is OK to raise cattle in a pasture, pigs, chickens and turkeys in a pen, fatten them up only to be slaughtered, packaged and sent to the supermarket. Is this also not barbaric and bloodthirsty? Should this or the ways of our forefathers be passed on to our progeny?
