John Graham ``Jack'' Lawrence, 84, of the 1200 block of Church St., died Wednesday, Jan. 29, 1997, at the home of his nephew in Tyner.
A native of Halifax County, he was the son of the late Charles Thomas II and Eliza Tripp Shaw Lawrence and had lived his entire life in Scotland Neck. A lifelong bachelor, he was a true Christian and gentleman of the old school and was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church.
Surviving are a sister, Mrs. Ann Lawrence Sams of Statesville, N.C.; sister-in-law, Mrs. Phyllis Lawrence of Hudson, Ohio; and two nephews, John Lawrence Sams of Tyner and Charles Bonner Sams of Troutman.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Lawrence family plot at the Baptist Cemetery, Scotland Neck, by the Rev. Camelia Blessing. Following the service, the family will receive friends in Trinity Episcopal Church Parish House. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to the Albemarle Hospice, P.O. Box 189, Elizabeth City, N.C. 27907. Miller Funeral Home, Gatesville, is in charge.
