Clarence Lee Newton Jr. died Jan. 15, 1997, in a local hospital.
He was a retired civil engineer. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was the past owner of two civil engineering firms in the San Diego area.
He is survived by his wife, Maria G. Newtown of Del Mar, Calif.; a son, Gary, of Colorado; a daughter, Peggy, of San Diego; three stepchildren, Bruno, Luana and Roy; a sister, Margaret N. Lester, of Virginia Beach; and nine grandchildren.
Services and burial were private.
