Briscoe Boddie of the 500 block of Rivercreek Road died Jan. 31, 1997, in a local hospital.
Born in Edgecombe City, N.C., he was a retired supervisor of NSC Naval Base. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Mr. Boddie was a member of Gideons Riverside Fellowship, Malachi Lodge No. 136 Free and Accepted Masons, the board of directors of the Martin Luther King Jr. Family Life Center; board of directors of Our Discount Mall Inc., board of directors of Faith Village Corp., founding member of Gideon's Riverside Fellowship and chairman of the Council of Deacons; the Chesapeake Branch of the NAACP; and Norfolk Chapter of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference. He was the son of the late Mattie H. and Samuel B. Boddie.
Survivors include his wife, Nellie Boddie; a daughter, Barbara Whitaker; a sister, Emma Dancy of Ahoskie; three brothers, Moses Boddie and Samuel Boddie, both of Scotland Neck, and Timothy Boddie of Cleveland, Ohio.
A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday in Gideon's Riverside Fellowship by Dr. Milton A. Reid with Minister Ashley Cain assisting. Burial will be in Rosewood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Gideon's Riverside Fellowship Building Fund. The family will receive friends at the residence.
